We, the people of the Archdiocese of Omaha, live at once in the ancient tradition of Roman Catholicism and the young, unique heritage of northeastern Nebraska. We are rooted in diverse ethnic and cultural heritages extending from farms and ranches to towns and city centers.

 

By baptism we are called to be faithful to the mission of Jesus, who came among us to teach, sanctify and lead us to the Father. We believe in God's redeeming love for us, the fullness of revelation in Jesus Christ, and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

 

We are joined together as the church of northeastern Nebraska primarily in the Eucharist, and through the ministry of the archbishop who is the visible sign of our unity. Through him we are joined with the pope as universal pastor and with all the bishops of the Church. We are, then, part of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church of Jesus Christ which is ever renewed and refreshed by the Holy Spirit in all its members.

 

As the community of the disciples of Jesus, we are committed to a life of faith and love and service, to continue His mission in the world:

 

We will strive to create an environment in which the Gospel message can be heard, pondered and extended to others.

 

We will call each other to deeper participation in the life of the Church through the celebration of the Eucharist and the other sacraments, and by a process of spiritual formation.

 

We will strive to respond to the needs of people with justice and compassion.

 

We will collaborate as stewards of the local church by developing our many resources and by planning together to meet our present and future goals.

 

We will invite everyone we meet to participate in the mission of Jesus as it is experienced in our archdiocese and throughout the universal Church, and as it is extended to people everywhere in our world.
