Speaker Resources & Parenting Classes
When your child asks you “Where is heaven?”, what do you say? You don’t have to have a theology degree to help your child understand and live his or her faith. Most of what your kids know about their Catholic faith will be learned by watching you and others around you. The way you treat others, your habits and conversation, the rules you set at home, the religious practices that are part of your life…..all these will be the first lessons in faith for your child. Your parish religious formation program is your partner in helping to form your child in faith. Being an active partner with your parish’s program will make the task easier!
As Catholics, we believe that the home is the ‘domestic church’. It is the first place we come to know God’s love and forgiveness and it is the school of Christian life. A child learns respect for human life by watching his parents treat others with respect. He learns about God’s unconditional love by receiving the love of those who care for him.
If questions and situations arise when parents need help in explaining an aspect of faith to children which they themselves do not understand, there are resources to help in learning more. The resources in this section of the PARENTLINK contain helpful information and reflections for parents in their awesome responsibility to be the first religious educators and faith nurturers of their children.
